Our Mission

The mission of the Lufkin Professional Firefighters Association is to protect the rights of all members, promote and improve working conditions and protect and advance wages and benefits. We protect your firefighters so they can focus on their job: protecting you.

About Us

For generations, your Lufkin professional firefighters have stood for one mission: your safety. From the city's first volunteer department in 1888 to the fully professional 80-member firefighting force of today, Lufkin's bravest have answered the call to protect the residents, businesses, and visitors of this great city.

When your firefighters aren't out extinguishing blazes, they're honing their skills through countless hours of firefighting, paramedic, hazardous materials, and technical rescue training to help you out of any emergency. Our members are proud to collectively make up a force of highly-skilled firefighters and paramedics who are ready for any emergency that comes our way.

Outside of the firehouse, we're proud to give back to the community that we've sworn an oath to protect. Your Lufkin firefighters honored to be a part of this vibrant and growing city. We're proud to serve Lufkin and work every day to uphold our reputation for providing excellence in public safety.

Our History

The Lufkin Professional Firefighters Association and Lufkin Fire Department have grown with the pace of our city, evolving from a volunteer department in the 1880s, to the full-time, 80-member professional firefighting force of today. The city's first volunteer firefighters organized a department in 1888, but it declined over the years. Lufkin's first paid firefighter was brought on in 1910 as a primary caretaker for the city's horses. Throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, the city has added more and more career firefighters as call volume has increased, culminating in today's full-time force.

The department is staffed with about 80 firefighters, who are also trained as paramedics to serve the nearly 40,000 residents of our 34-square-mile city. The members of our association answer about 9,000 emergency calls every year from five fire stations throughout the city. In addition to answering fire and medical calls, Lufkin's firefighters also staff a 25-member hazardous material team -- the only team within a three-hour driving radius.

Our members have become an integral part of the community and we're constantly looking for more opportunities to give back to our neighbors. We encourage anyone in the community who would like to partner with us in charitable ventures or community events to please reach out to us.
